If DC Law Enforcement Calls About My Criminal Investigation, Should I Talk To Them?

Peter Odom: Absolutely not. And it doesn’t matter if you feel that you didn’t do anything wrong, it doesn’t matter if you think it’s not a big deal or if the police tell you you’re not suspected of committing a crime. If a law enforcement officer calls you or shows up to your door and ask to talk to you, the first words out of your mouth should be, “I want to talk to a lawyer first.”

You’ll never know what the police are going to be asking or what they’re looking for so talking to a lawyer, to understand what you rights are and discuss your specific situation, is essential before deciding whether or not you’re going to be talking to a police officer.
